"CORRESPONDENCIAS"
Manel Esclusa y Marce |
|
IManel Esclusa
and Marcelo Brodsky have developed, across various months, an
unusual correspondence based upon the exchange of images. It
is a dialogue interwoven with a shared grammar, which voluntarily
dispenses with words and concentrates instead on the properties
of photography to stimulate the mind of the spectator, in the
way in which music can.
Brodsky was a student of Esclusa during his exile in Barcelona
in the early 80s and recovers this protean relationship, 15
years later, through a visual correspondence that pays homage
to the powerful creative influence of his master. Despite having
developed diverse photographic trajectories, in this project
both explore a non-verbal communication that transcends the
mere exchange of documentary information.
At a time in which communication is synonymous with immediacy,
Esclusa and Brodsky opt to slow down the pace, facilitating
the deposit of ideas. It is an almost melancholic attitude,
recalling the time lapse that occurs between the photographic
capturing of an image and its contemplation, once the process
of development is complete. Here, photography and new technologies
are put at the service of an ancestral tradition: the exchange
of correspondence between master and protégée.
