"VIGILIA"
Bruno Dubner |
|
Darkness that holds
promise. Instants of light that absorb and offer to their observer
the imminence that something may appear behind a half shut door
or a window with half raised blinds. Instants that are nevertheless
indelible and lasting; which reflect, in a moment, long minutes
of exposure and waiting. That is what one feels the first time
one contemplates the work of Bruno Dubner. Yet beyond this,
the photographs in this series (produced by night; vigils in
the strictest sense) contain a profound technical, visual and
scenographic structure. Their apparent simplicity is the product
of an elaborate and persistent work and the artist’s obsession
with his own interior world. As a result, they go beyond the
inherent mystery and uncertainty of the darkness that they reflect.
If every image - as the Latin etymology indicates - touches
the ghostly, the spectral or the invisible, Dubner’s vigils
send us to the dark night of the soul; the mystical night. They
invite us on a journey beyond the silent walls of his house,
scenario for all his works. His images induce the spectator
to a state of contemplation in which the mind fuses with that
which we contemplate and recreates - in the muteness of the
imagined contours, in the secret of the invisible beauty - its
own story. The vigils of Dubner present themselves then as dreams,
imagos or resonances of our own interior experience.
